Austin Creed may have left WWE and is now part of AEW, but don’t expect UpUpDownDown to suddenly become part of Tony Khan’s company.
During the AEW All Out post-show media scrum, Tony Khan was asked whether he’d have any interest in acquiring Creed’s famous gaming channel or whether AEW would simply build something new around New Level. Khan admitted he couldn’t comment on the channel itself because he doesn’t know who owns it, but he made one thing crystal clear: New Level is going to have a major role in AEW’s digital future.
“I definitely want them to have a big digital presence for us. As far as that YouTube channel, I can’t speak for that because I don’t know the ownership of that YouTube channel.”
Rather than focusing on what Creed left behind, Khan shifted the conversation to what the former WWE stars have already been doing since arriving in AEW.
“As you can see, they’ve been a big fixture since they arrived in AEW last month. As far as their digital presence, they are gonna be a big part of the AEW digital team.”
Khan also explained how quickly everything came together. He explained that the deal happened fast, but stressed that AEW waited until the pair’s 90-day non-compete expired before beginning negotiations.
“This all came together very quickly, and I did everything above board, waiting for the 90 days to expire before I started talking to them. For us, they are a big part of the AEW team, including digital.”
The comments come after Tyler Breeze recently confirmed that WWE owns UpUpDownDown, putting to rest any speculation that Creed could simply bring the channel with him to AEW. Instead, it sounds like Khan has a different vision. Rather than trying to recreate UpUpDownDown, AEW is planning to make New Level one of the faces of its growing digital content.
