Tony Khan isn’t exactly shutting down the idea of Kairi Sane joining AEW. While he stopped short of confirming any negotiations or plans, the AEW President admitted he’s very interested in the former WWE star now that she’s available.
Speaking during the post-AEW WrestleDream media scrum, Khan was directly asked about the possibility of AEW signing Kairi. He immediately praised her ability before making it clear that he couldn’t say much about the situation right now.
“She’s a fantastic wrestler. I can’t speak to that at this time, but I am very aware and excited to see that she’s a free agent.”
Khan could have left things there, but he went a little further. He openly admitted that Kairi being available has caught his attention and described the possibility surrounding her as something that intrigues him.
“And that’s very, very interesting. And I’m very intrigued by the possibility of that.”
That’s certainly going to keep the speculation around Kairi’s future alive. AEW has already been heavily linked to her for months, although there still hasn’t been confirmation that she’s actually signed a contract with the company.
Sean Ross Sapp recently addressed that situation during a Q&A and made it clear that, despite all the talk surrounding AEW, Kairi had not signed at that point.
“She has not yet though. Just has not yet.”
Kairi is also scheduled to appear on Chris Jericho’s Rock ‘N’ Wrestling Rager at Sea cruise, which naturally added even more fuel to the AEW speculation. Being booked for the cruise doesn’t mean she’s joining AEW, but it certainly hasn’t stopped fans from connecting the dots.
For now, Khan isn’t announcing anything, but he isn’t pretending Kairi’s free agency has gone unnoticed either. Calling himself “very intrigued” by the possibility is about as far as he was willing to go, meaning Kairi’s next move remains one worth watching.
