Seven years ago, AEW didn’t have enough history to even think about a Hall of Fame. Now, Tony Khan isn’t ruling one out.
During an appearance on the Battleground Podcast, Khan was asked a question fans have quietly debated for years: with AEW now seven years old and legends like Sting already retired, is it finally time for the company to start honoring its own history?
Khan didn’t announce anything, but he also didn’t brush the idea aside. Instead, he admitted it’s something that’s been on his mind—especially after being asked about Ring of Honor’s Hall of Fame.
“It’s a very important consideration also, and as soon as you brought up the ROH one, I knew the AEW question was not far behind. I’ve never launched a Hall of Fame personally. The ROH class, which is a great group, they picked the group that is five wrestlers, four inductions across five wrestlers with, of course, Bryan Danielson, CM Punk, Samoa Joe and The Briscoes, Mark and Jay Briscoe. I think that’s five great wrestlers, four great acts to put in a Hall of Fame. And I’ve never launched any AEW Hall of Fame as of yet and have not worked on the ROH Hall of Fame yet. So those are great thoughts and something to think about.”
It’s a conversation that feels more realistic now than it did just a few years ago. AEW has already produced several defining moments and stars that fans believe deserve recognition, from Sting’s emotional retirement to the lasting impact of the late Brodie Lee. Battle even pointed out that fans could spend hours debating who would headline an inaugural class. That’s exactly where Khan decided to pump the brakes.
Laughing, he joked that he could see where the conversation was heading and wasn’t about to reveal a Hall of Fame class that doesn’t exist.
“I get the feeling that’s what you were trying to get me to do. I can’t do that.”
Battle insisted he wasn’t fishing for headlines or trying to get Khan to name future inductees. He simply wanted to know whether the idea had ever been discussed internally.
That led Khan to end the conversation on perhaps the most interesting note of all. While he stopped short of confirming any plans, he admitted the suggestion was great and promised it was something he’d think more about going forward.
“Yeah, it was a great idea. And, you know, as I’ve said, you brought it up. I think it’s a great thought and I’ll have to consider it.”
For now, AEW still doesn’t have a Hall of Fame, and Khan offered no timeline for creating one. But unlike in the past, he didn’t dismiss the possibility either. As the company’s history continues to grow, the question no longer seems to be whether AEW has enough legends to honor—it’s whether Khan decides the time is finally right.
