Tommaso Ciampa is wasting no time getting attached to his new AEW National Championship — and he’s already given the title its own name. After defeating Andrade El Ídolo during AEW Collision on November 7, Ciampa revealed that his newest championship will now be known as “Ruby.”
The title change took place aboard Chris Jericho’s Rock ‘N’ Wrestling Rager at Sea cruise, where Ciampa and Andrade faced off in a rematch from AEW WrestleDream. This time, Ciampa walked away with the National Championship, giving him his second title reign since joining AEW.
Following the victory, Ciampa appeared in an AEW digital exclusive and made it clear that he’s only getting started. He bragged about making history, winning championships in his first 10 months with the company, and his plans to eventually capture the AEW World Championship. But the biggest reveal came when he introduced his new championship by name.
“Ten months in AEW, and I’m rewriting the damn playbook. You can call me the history maker. My debut here, first man ever to win a singles title in his first ever match at the company. Now, I am the first man in the history of professional wrestling to win a title on television on a cruise ship. Tommaso Ciampa, ten months, TNT champion, National champion. I said it from day one. I am the new belt collector and I’m taking every damn title until I take the world title. This one right here, this one right here is special, and she tells me her name is Ruby. Say hello to Ruby. Isn’t she lovely? Isn’t she lovely?”
Ciampa’s decision to name the championship adds another wrinkle to his growing obsession with collecting titles. After previously holding the TNT Championship, he’s now calling himself AEW’s new belt collector and has his sights set on eventually adding the company’s biggest prize to his collection.
For now, though, Ciampa seems pretty happy with Ruby. The new AEW National Champion has already made it clear that he sees the title as something special, and he’s treating his latest victory like another step toward taking over the company’s championship picture. Whether he can hold onto Ruby while chasing even more gold remains to be seen.
