The New York Knicks are NBA Champions, and now Danhausen’s “uncursed” story is turning into a much bigger WWE and TKO play.
The Knicks won the NBA Championship on Saturday, ending their 53-year drought after Danhausen became part of the team’s playoff run by “uncursing” them. WWE already jumped on the moment by releasing Danhausen x Knicks championship merchandise, but that may only be the start.
Bryan Alvarez noted that TKO is putting the Danhausen and Knicks deal together, and WWE cameras are expected to be involved when New York celebrates.
“The Danhausen/Knicks deal is being put together by TKO. WWE cameras will be at the parade, and they will likely be putting together a Knicks/Danhausen documentary for YouTube.”
That means WWE could turn Danhausen’s Knicks connection into more than just a one-off joke. With the team now celebrating a championship, the company appears ready to capture the moment and push it across its platforms.
WWE is also trying to bring the Knicks celebration into Saturday Night’s Main Event in New York City. At least one Knicks player is already confirmed, and WWE is trying to get more players and the team’s coach involved.
Danhausen took to Twitter after the Knicks won the title and congratulated the team, writing:
“.@nyknicks CONGRATULATIONS FROM DANHAUSEN FOREVER UNCURSED 🏀👹🦷🗽 @WWE”
He also declared himself the “king of New York” in the video and joked that the city now owes him a statue, a mural, a parade, and even a giant balloon.
“Yes. We did it. Danhausen’s the king of New York now.”
The Knicks winning the NBA Championship was already a massive New York sports moment, but Danhausen being attached to the run gave WWE and TKO an easy crossover to cash in on. Now, with merch already released, WWE cameras expected at the parade, a possible YouTube documentary, and Knicks involvement planned for Saturday Night’s Main Event, the company is clearly running with it.
It remains to be seen how far WWE and TKO take the Danhausen x Knicks story, but they are not wasting any time turning the “uncursed” championship run into content and merchandise.
