Tiffany Stratton is not blocking out the haters — she is actually reading what they say, and sometimes she thinks they have a point.
While speaking to KFAN, Stratton was asked how she deals with wrestling fans turning on people overnight. One minute they love everything. The next minute they are ripping the show apart and blaming whoever happens to be on screen. Stratton said that comes with the job because wrestling is built on opinions, and performers do not control every part of their own careers.
“Pro wrestling is a very opinion-based form of entertainment. Even down to the booking, your fate is kind of decided by somebody else. You can’t really control whether or not you win a title or whether the fans like you.”
She also knows fans can completely take over a storyline when they are not buying what WWE is selling. Instead of pretending those reactions do not matter, Stratton admitted she reads the criticism and occasionally agrees with it.
“Sometimes the fans will hijack things, and I think the fans are the main reason why we have this company. I believe everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and sometimes I do see hate comments, and sometimes I think they’re kind of right.”
That does not mean she agrees with every random account firing off insults. Still, some fans apparently have ideas worth hearing.
“Sometimes I’m like, ‘You guys have a lot of cool ideas,’ or, ‘You’re right, that’s not working,’ or, ‘This is working.’ I take everything into account, whether it’s hate or love.”
Stratton also dropped a pretty fair rule for anyone who lives off praise online. Of course, there is a limit. Stratton said sitting around all day reading hate would drive anyone insane.
“If you believe the good on social media, you have to believe the bad on social media.”
“You can’t really let it affect you that much, because if you do, you’ll just be sitting there reading hate comments all day long. Everyone’s got something to say.”
Stratton is clearly not letting social media run her life, but she is not dismissing every criticism either. In a business where crowd reaction can change everything, she is keeping an eye on what fans are saying.
Do you think Tiffany Stratton is smart for listening to fan criticism, or should WWE stars ignore social media completely? Let us know in the comments.
