Kairi Sane’s AEW future is still one of wrestling’s biggest question marks, and now one of the company’s own stars has weighed in. Thekla has been hearing the same rumors as everyone else, but she’s not ready to buy into them until there’s something official.
While speaking to TV Insider, Thekla was asked about the possibility of Kairi eventually joining AEW. Rather than acting like a deal was inevitable, Thekla admitted she’s excited whenever fresh faces arrive in the company, especially someone with Kairi’s reputation, but she isn’t getting ahead of herself.
“I always like new faces coming in. I still consider myself a new face somehow. It has only been a little bit over a year for me.”
Thekla said she’s a fan of wrestlers moving between different promotions, comparing it to how things worked years ago. She believes that creates fresh matchups and keeps things exciting for both the wrestlers and the fans.
“I’m a huge fan of people just going from one territory to the other, like in the old days. I’m very excited to see who’s gonna step up, you know?”
Of course, she knows exactly why Kairi’s name keeps coming up. The former WWE star has been one of the hottest free agents in wrestling since her release, but Thekla isn’t treating the speculation as fact just because people keep talking about it.
“Kairi has been the talk of the town. I’m only going to believe it once I see it.”
Even so, Thekla admitted she’d have no problem seeing Kairi arrive in AEW if it does happen. From her perspective, it’s the kind of signing that would immediately create brand-new matches fans haven’t seen before.
“For the fans, it’s always cool to see a new matchup. We’ll see. Let’s keep our fingers crossed. Let us see if we can spice it up a little bit.”
The comments come after Fightful Select recently reported that AEW and Kairi have held discussions but haven’t finalized a deal. The report also noted Kairi was never expected to debut at All In, despite weeks of fan speculation, and that multiple promotions remain interested in signing her.
For now, nothing has changed: Kairi is still a free agent, and AEW remains a possibility rather than a certainty. Thekla sounds open to sharing the locker room with her, but like everyone else, she’s waiting to see whether the rumors finally become reality.
