WWE’s NXT brand brought another big show to The CW for their June 16 episode as they continued their road to the Great American Bash. That included a #1 contender match for the North American Championship with two competitors who should not be overlooked.
This week saw Jackson Drake vs. Tavion Heights in a match to see who would face Myles Borne at the Great American Bash. Borne has been on a hot streak since winning the title, and even before that. He was, naturally, paying very close attention to this week’s match.
This match opened up NXT, and fans were ready for action. Tavion Heights got a great reaction, and The Vanity Project made their way out to the ring in full force with Jackson Drake as well.
Jackson Drake took control of the match just before they cut to a commercial break. This gave Drake a good advantage in the match as he sent Tavion Heights to the outside of the ring. The Vanity Project was also around to rub salt in Heights’ wound a bit with their taunting.
By the time fans saw the match again after the commercial, Tavion Heights was already in control of the match. However, Jackson Drake came back with a slew of offense, including a flipping cutter for a near fall. In the end, Tavion pulled off the win to become the new #1 contender. Myles Borne was watching from ringside at the end of the match, and he looked pleased by the outcome.
