Tate Mayfairs is lucky to be alive after falling asleep behind the wheel and smashing his BMW into bollards on the opposite side of the road.

The independent wrestler revealed the crash on September 3, 2026, and posted a photo of his badly damaged car. The front end was torn up, but Mayfairs said he somehow walked away without getting hurt. Mayfairs didn’t dance around what happened either, explaining that he fell asleep while driving and ended up crossing over before hitting the bollards.

“Finally happened… I fell asleep at the wheel and drove head first into bollards on the other side of the road. I’m alive, no one was injured, car’s written off.”

After some fans questioned whether the whole thing was part of a wrestling angle, Mayfairs shut that down immediately and said the crash was a real example of the danger that comes with late nights and long drives in wrestling.

“No it’s not a work, it’s the real dangers of the job outside the ring; long drives and late nights.”

He also made it clear his promoter wasn’t responsible for him being on the road that night. A hotel had already been arranged, but Mayfairs decided to drive home instead, and he said he was fortunate enough to escape without a scratch.

“To be clear my promoter had a hotel for me on location but I chose to drive home the same night of my own will. Thanks for those who checked in I got away without a scratch – Greatness.”

The crash clearly rattled him enough to change how he looks at those late-night drives after shows. Mayfairs told other wrestlers not to make the same mistake and urged them to take the hotel, get some coffee or pull over if they’re too tired to keep going. He ended the post by thanking God for getting him through it.

“But a real wake up call to myself and hopefully the rest of the boys – take the hotel, buy the coffee, pull over to sleep if you need to.”

“Thank you God for keeping me alive 🙏”

Mayfairs totaled his car, but this could have ended a hell of a lot worse. He walked away, nobody else was hurt, and now he’s using the wreck as a warning to anyone in wrestling who thinks they can push through one more long drive after a show.

What do you think about Tate Mayfairs admitting he fell asleep at the wheel and turning the crash into a warning for other wrestlers? Let us know in the comments.
