The Syx revealed that one of the biggest surprises during their shocking TNA debut wasn’t for the fans—it was for both of them.

Last month, the mystery attackers who had been targeting The Hardys were finally revealed as the former Wyatt Sicks members. Along with the shocking debut came the introduction of Syx, complete with glitch effects, chainsaws, blood and a much darker presentation. The duo is now set to face The Hardys at Bound for Glory this weekend.

Speaking on Busted Open Radio on October 8, Shaw revealed that a lot of what fans saw during the debut actually came from ideas he and Sawyer had pitched to TNA. The twist? They had no idea the company was actually going to use them during the reveal.

“Yeah, look, I’m wearing brand-new Syx T-shirts. So this was a concept—I drew this up on a napkin at first, and I was like, ‘You know, if we just had Syx and it looked like the chainsaw coming through one of the letters,’ and they were immediately like, ‘Excellent.’ They’re like, ‘Make it a little more gory. Put some blood there.’ It’s something I couldn’t have gotten through in WWE. We got a bit of an edge now. They were all about this image.”

Shaw said they were already blown away when they arrived at the building and found brand-new Syx shirts waiting for them. But once they walked through the curtain, they looked up at the Tron and realized TNA had secretly included almost every creative idea they’d discussed.

“Our first day on the job, they have this shirt for me and Joe. Then we get out to the ring and we see up on the Tron all the ideas we pitched—like chainsaws, the glitching, the way that the lettering of the Syx on the screen—goosebumps again, because this is a reveal. But then I’m looking up at the Tron, and we didn’t even know if it was gonna be there.

But that imagery, the things we had discussed, that’s all there. So amazing. We’re working in conjunction together to make this dream a reality.”

It’s a cool behind-the-scenes look at how much creative freedom Shaw and Sawyer have already been given in TNA. Instead of just pitching ideas and hoping for the best, they got to see those concepts come to life in front of a live crowd—and they didn’t even know it was happening until they looked at the screen.
