WWE has a packed SmackDown planned for October 30, and now we know who is expected to kick things off. With Crown Jewel getting closer, the company apparently wants to get things started with one of its biggest stars.

According to Viper Reports, Cody Rhodes is currently listed to open tonight’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown. The information comes from the early rundown for the show, which has Rhodes scheduled for the opening segment.

Of course, this is only the early rundown, and WWE can always change its plans before the show goes live. There’s also no word yet on exactly what Rhodes will be doing during the segment or who might be involved.

The update comes ahead of a loaded episode of SmackDown from the Charleston Coliseum in Charleston, West Virginia. WWE has three championship matches advertised, including Sami Zayn defending the Undisputed WWE Championship against Trick Williams.

Zayn has been trying to prove Roman Reigns wrong ahead of their Champion vs. Champion showdown at Crown Jewel, but he’s also putting his championship at risk by accepting challenges before the event. A loss to Williams tonight would throw those plans into question.

Chelsea Green is also scheduled to defend the WWE Women’s Championship against Nikki Bella, while Rey Fenix will put the AAA World Cruiserweight Championship on the line against Ricky Saints. On top of that, Danhausen will present his Halloween-themed “Very Nice, Very Evil SmackDown,” adding another element to the final build toward Crown Jewel.

As for Rhodes, WWE hasn’t revealed what his opening segment will involve. But with his name currently sitting at the top of the rundown, fans can expect to see him early in the broadcast unless something changes before showtime.

Tonight’s SmackDown airs at 8 PM ET on USA Network. Ringside News will have full coverage in our WWE SmackDown results section.

Do you think Cody Rhodes opening SmackDown is setting up something big for Crown Jewel, or will WWE have another surprise planned for tonight? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
