Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins are getting the final spotlight at WWE SummerSlam Sunday.
PWInsider states that Reigns’ World Heavyweight Championship defense against Rollins will serve as the main event of the August 2 show at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. The longtime rivals will close the second night of SummerSlam and the entire two-night event.
The placement is no surprise considering the history between them. Reigns and Rollins came up together in The Shield before their careers split into two very different paths, and their rivalry has followed both men for years. Rollins is now trying to take back the championship he says he never truly lost, while Reigns enters SummerSlam determined to remain on top.
WWE will open the show with Sami Zayn facing Finn Bálor in a match to determine a future challenger for the Undisputed WWE Championship. The card will also include Penta defending the Intercontinental Championship against Chad Gable, Trick Williams putting the United States Championship on the line against Baron Corbin, the five-woman Interim WWE Women’s Championship Ladder Match and Danhausen facing Dominik Mysterio in a Human Monies on a Pole Match.
Everything will build toward Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins closing the weekend. WWE has positioned their championship fight as the biggest match of SummerSlam Sunday, giving the former Shield partners the responsibility of delivering the event’s final moment.
