WWE appears to have its closing match set for tonight’s SmackDown in Mexico City.
According to Viper Reports, the early rundown for the September 11, 2026 episode has CM Punk defending the Undisputed WWE Championship against Sami Zayn in the final match of the night. That would put one of SmackDown’s biggest advertised matches in the main event spot, with Punk and Zayn once again battling over WWE’s top championship.
The match comes after Zayn challenged Punk following the champion’s successful title defense against Johnny Gargano last week. Zayn has refused to let Punk simply move on after losing the championship to him, and now their latest showdown is expected to close out tonight’s show.
WWE plans can always change before or even during the live broadcast. As things currently stand, though, Punk vs. Zayn for the Undisputed WWE Championship is penciled in as tonight’s closing match.
SmackDown will air live from Arena CDMX in Mexico City at 8 PM ET on USA Network, with international viewers able to watch through Netflix. With Punk and Zayn currently set to close the show, WWE is giving their championship rivalry the biggest possible spot on the card.
