WWE isn’t messing around with tonight’s SmackDown main event, as the company apparently has a major championship match lined up to close the October 30 show. And with Crown Jewel right around the corner, the outcome could have some serious consequences.

According to Viper Reports, Sami Zayn’s Undisputed WWE Championship defense against Trick Williams is currently scheduled to be the closing match for tonight’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown.

The match is listed in the show’s early plans, although WWE can always make changes before the broadcast goes live. For now, Zayn and Williams are expected to get the final match of the night.

That’s a pretty big spot for Williams, who has been looking to get himself back into the championship picture. He’s now getting a chance to challenge for WWE’s biggest prize while also closing out SmackDown just days before Crown Jewel.

Zayn, meanwhile, has been making things a lot harder for himself. Roman Reigns already questioned whether he’d even make it to Crown Jewel with the Undisputed WWE Championship, but Zayn hasn’t exactly been interested in playing it safe. Instead, he’s been accepting challenges from anyone willing to step up. That nearly backfired when Je’Von Evans pushed him to the limit on Raw, but Zayn managed to escape with his championship intact.

Now Williams gets his shot, and WWE apparently believes the match deserves the main event spot. If Williams manages to pull off the upset, it would completely change the championship situation heading into Crown Jewel, where Zayn is scheduled to face Reigns in a Champion vs. Champion match.

The rest of tonight’s show is also stacked. Chelsea Green will defend the WWE Women’s Championship against Nikki Bella, while Rey Fenix puts the AAA World Cruiserweight Championship on the line against Ricky Saints. Danhausen is also presenting his Halloween-themed “Very Nice, Very Evil SmackDown.” Cody Rhodes is currently scheduled to open tonight’s broadcast, meaning WWE’s early plans have Rhodes starting the show and Zayn vs. Williams closing it.

Nothing is final until the show actually airs, but WWE’s current lineup puts the Undisputed WWE Championship front and center for the closing match. With Crown Jewel approaching, Zayn has another opportunity to prove he can survive as champion — assuming Williams doesn’t ruin everything.

Do you think Sami Zayn will successfully defend his championship against Trick Williams, or could WWE pull off a major title change before Crown Jewel? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
