RUSH may not be returning to AEW as soon as some fans had hoped. After previously saying his comeback wasn’t far away, El Toro Blanco has now suggested that fans might have to wait until next year to see him back on AEW programming.
The update came on October 6 when a fan took to Twitter and asked RUSH when he would finally be returning to AEW, adding that there were plenty of wrestlers who still needed to “taste the horns.”
“Rush when are you coming back to AEW? Too many guys in AEW really need to taste the horns. Don Callis Family are one group of guys needing a beating!”
RUSH kept his reply short, but it was enough to raise plenty of questions about his status, as he said he’ll return to AEW next year: “Maybe next year.”
The response stands out because it seems to be a different outlook from what RUSH had been saying recently. Just a few weeks ago, he told fans during a livestream that he expected to be back in AEW within a matter of weeks, adding that his absence wouldn’t last much longer.
RUSH also recently pushed back against claims that injuries have kept him off AEW television, insisting that he’s only suffered one significant injury during his run with the company. He explained that he continues training in both the gym and the ring, studies English every day, watches tape and does everything possible to make sure he’s ready whenever AEW calls.
Whether RUSH was being completely serious or simply keeping fans guessing remains to be seen, but his latest response has certainly cast some doubt on the idea that his AEW return is just around the corner. For now, fans will have to wait and see if “maybe next year” turns out to be a tease or an accurate timeline.
