Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins may have beaten the hell out of each other at SummerSlam, but once the match was over, the two former Shield brothers made it clear their bond runs deeper than any championship.
Reigns defeated Rollins in the Night Two main event to retain the World Heavyweight Championship, bringing another brutal chapter of their rivalry to an end. After the bell, they met in the middle of the ring, shared the Shield fist bump and exchanged a few emotional words.
During the official SummerSlam post-show, Reigns revealed exactly what he told Rollins in that moment. Reigns said their connection goes all the way back to FCW, long before The Shield took over WWE.
“It’s always been me and you. Since FCW, since Red Rooster was bitching at us, it’s always been me and Seth. It’s always been the two of us.”
He then looked back at their time alongside Dean Ambrose, now known as Jon Moxley, and said he and Rollins always believed they were the two men destined to change WWE. Reigns also took a shot at the people who walked away while he and Rollins stayed behind and carried WWE through difficult stretches.
“Even in The Shield, we knew Ambrose was a wild hare, but we knew we were the guys who were going to change this place. We’re the pioneers of this place.”
“When people left, when people were scared, when they ran off, we held the fort down.”
The moment added another layer to a rivalry that has followed both men for more than a decade. Reigns and Rollins have betrayed each other, fought over championships and spent years trying to prove who became the true leader of their generation.
SummerSlam ended with Reigns still holding the World Heavyweight Championship, but the post-match fist bump showed that neither man has forgotten where the journey started.
