Ricky Saints is quickly gaining momentum in WWE, but he’s making one thing clear: don’t compare him to the Rock.
Following his recent SmackDown debut, where Ricky Saints went straight at Cody Rhodes, Saints is now addressing the growing talk around his character, specifically comparisons to Dwayne Johnson’s “Corporate Rock” era. While speaking to SmarkTank Revolution, Saints was asked directly about those comparisons and whether they’ve influenced how he presents himself. He didn’t hesitate to push back.
"So, I don’t know if you guys know this or not, but there were people who dressed really good in wrestling before Dwayne Johnson, and there were people who dressed really good in wrestling after The Rock. It’s not just for one specific person."
Saints made it clear that the idea of tying his presentation to one specific influence doesn’t line up with how he sees himself, or his place in wrestling. He doubled down by addressing the bigger point: his character isn’t modeled after anyone — because, in his eyes, it’s not a character at all.
"And contrary to belief, my character was never based around The Rock. My character is not even a character—I grew up in New Orleans, I am who I am, as Popeye says."
That mindset lines up with how Saints has been presented since his call-up. After a strong run in NXT where he captured the NXT Championship, he wasted no time making noise on SmackDown, stepping right into the limelight against one of WWE’s top names.
So at the end of the day, Saints isn’t trying to recreate anything from the past. He’s positioning himself as something original, and he’s making sure people understand that from the start.
Do you think Ricky Saints separating himself from those comparisons will help his WWE run, or do you still see similarities to The Rock’s early character? Let us know your thoughts.
