Kofi Kingston and Austin Creed were nowhere to be found on this week’s AEW Dynamite, but apparently there was a pretty good reason for it. The New Level members missed the October 21 show because they were busy celebrating Big E’s wedding.

According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Kingston and Creed were absent from Dynamite so they could attend the wedding of their longtime friend and former New Day partner. Big E married Kris Yim, the sister of WWE star Mia Yim, with his family and friends there for the big day.

Kingston and Creed making sure they were there shouldn’t come as much of a surprise considering their history with Big E. The three spent years together as The New Day in WWE and have remained incredibly close even as their wrestling careers have taken them in different directions.

Their absence was noticeable because The New Level still had business waiting for them on Dynamite. Swerve Strickland appeared without Kingston and Creed during a backstage segment with the new AEW World Trios Champions, “Hangman” Adam Page and Brodido.

Strickland demanded a rematch after his team lost the titles, and Page agreed that they deserved another opportunity. Swerve then called for the match to happen at Full Gear before trying to turn things considerably more personal.

Strickland brought up his violent history with Page and demanded that the Trios Championship rematch be held under Texas Death rules. Page immediately rejected that stipulation because he knew Swerve’s request wasn’t really about the championships.

The wrestling story will still be waiting for The New Level when they return, but Big E’s wedding was obviously a night Kingston and Creed weren’t going to miss. After everything the three experienced together during their WWE run, their friendship clearly extends well beyond whichever company logo happens to be on their paycheck.
