Jeff Hardy’s recent TNA write-off wasn’t quite as straightforward as it looked on television. After the company took him off IMPACT with a brutal backstage attack and later announced that he was out due to injury, Matt Hardy has now explained what’s actually going on with his brother.

Jeff was taken out during the August 27 episode of TNA IMPACT as part of the mystery attacker storyline that has seen several people targeted backstage. His situation was presented as much more serious than the other attacks, with Jeff eventually being loaded into an ambulance and transported to the hospital.

While speaking on The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, Matt explained that Jeff’s condition was deliberately made to look particularly bad on television. The attack even pulled Matt away from the following week of IMPACT as he dealt with what happened to his brother.

“Yeah, we’ve had a deal recently on the programs where just people have been randomly—they’ve been taken out backstage. But Jeff’s case was a little worse than everyone else’s, apparently.”

You know, he was like—he was in a pretty bad state. They had to pop him in the ambulance, take him away. It took me away from the first week of Impact, obviously.”

The good news is that Jeff apparently won’t be gone for very long. Despite the severity of the ambulance angle, Matt said his brother is doing all right and is currently slated to return in roughly three weeks. Interestingly enough, that timetable lines up with TNA heading back to San Antonio in the United States.

“But he is—he’s doing all right. He is, um, he is slated to be back in about three weeks or so, and coincidentally, it’s when we end up back in San Antonio in the U.S. So hopefully all things work out okay.”

There is also a legitimate physical issue Jeff has been dealing with behind the scenes. Matt revealed that Jeff continues to deal with a nagging neck injury. The problem hasn’t completely gone away, although Jeff has been doing everything he can to take care of it while being much more careful about how he works in the ring.

“Yeah, yeah, we’re cooking. We’re still cooking, man. We’re feeling pretty good, you know.

And Jeff, like, he’s doing pretty well. He still deals—that neck injury is nagging a little bit—but he’s been doing all that he can to take care of it, and he’s just being very smart about how he works and whatnot.”

Jeff Hardy has spent decades putting his body through things most wrestlers wouldn’t even attempt, so a nagging neck issue is obviously something worth being careful with. If everything goes according to plan, though, fans apparently won’t have to wait much longer to see him back.
