Kevin Knight’s entrance music changed when he joined the Don Callis Family, and it turns out there was no backstage drama behind the switch.
While answering fan questions on the latest Fightful Select Q&A, Sean Ross Sapp explained why Knight is no longer coming out to Monteasy’s “The Jet.” According to Sapp, the decision was simply creative.
“The short answer is they thought that the new theme was a better fit.”
Knight had been using Monteasy’s track before turning heel, but after aligning himself with the Don Callis Family, AEW introduced “Final Approach,” a new entrance theme created by Mikey Rukus featuring SayItAintTone. Once fans noticed the change, some wondered if something had happened between AEW and Monteasy. Sapp said that is not the case at all.
“No issues with AEW and Monteasy that I’ve ever heard of, and he has a lot of friends in the company. I just heard that some in AEW felt there was a better fit.”
So, according to Sapp, the switch had nothing to do with heat, licensing problems, or a falling out. AEW simply felt Knight’s new presentation called for different music.
The timing lines up with Knight’s character change. His move into the Don Callis Family marked a major shift from the energetic babyface presentation fans were used to, and AEW apparently wanted his entrance to reflect that.
For now, “Final Approach” looks like it is here to stay. If the report is accurate, the only reason fans are no longer hearing “The Jet” is because AEW believed Kevin Knight’s new direction needed a theme that better matched his heel persona.
