A new backstage update may have spoiled one of WWE’s biggest SummerSlam plans—and it could explain why two heavily rumored women’s matches quietly disappeared from the card.
During a recent Q&A, JoeyVotes of WrestleVotes was asked why WWE abandoned the rumored Charlotte Flair vs. Jade Cargill and Blake Monroe vs. Tiffany Stratton matches for SummerSlam.
According to JoeyVotes, the answer comes down to the Interim WWE Women’s Championship Ladder Match, with the eventual winner originally slated for one of those singles bouts. He then pointed to Charlotte and Jade as the clearest example.
“The reason those matches aren’t happening is because your Ladder Match winner is in one of those matches. You can’t have Charlotte vs. Jade if you want Charlotte to become the interim champion.”
JoeyVotes added that WWE’s thinking was straightforward: if the plan is for either Charlotte Flair or Jade Cargill to leave SummerSlam as champion, putting them in a one-on-one match beforehand simply wasn’t an option.
“Those matches aren’t happening because they want Charlotte or Jade to win the Ladder Match.”
The comments offer a very different explanation from what many fans originally assumed. After Rhea Ripley’s injury forced WWE to introduce an Interim Women’s Championship, the company pivoted to a five-woman ladder match, leaving the previously rumored SummerSlam bouts off the card altogether.
As it stands, Charlotte Flair, Jade Cargill, Tiffany Stratton and Chelsea Green have already punched their tickets to the ladder match, with one final competitor still to be determined. Whether this backstage update turns out to be an accidental spoiler or a complete misdirection won’t be known until SummerSlam, when one of those five women walks out as Interim WWE Women’s Champion.
