Paul Heyman has made it clear that marriage isn’t for him, but that doesn’t mean he’s stayed away from serious relationships. In fact, the WWE personality admitted he’s had plenty of long-term relationships over the years — and some of them were happening at the same time.

During an inteview with Graham Bensinger, Heyman opened up about his personal life and why he has no interest in getting married. He explained that he doesn’t like the idea of being legally obligated to stay with someone, arguing that relationships should be based on two people choosing to remain together.

“Because at some point in it, your decision to stay is obligatory because of a piece of paper. If I wake up next to somebody, I want to know that they’re there because they chose to be there because they have the absolute freedom to walk out the door and they chose not to.”

The conversation then turned to whether Heyman could see himself settling down in a long-term relationship without getting married. That’s when he admitted he’s already had several, including some that overlapped.

“I have had many long-term relationships. Some of them at the same time.”

The interviewer laughed at Heyman’s admission before asking a more specific question about whether he could see himself in a long-term monogamous relationship. Heyman didn’t rule it out, but he made it clear that he still wants the freedom to walk away.

“Absolutely. And I could end those, too.”

Heyman then explained that there’s one thing every meaningful relationship in his life has had in common. Whether it’s romantic or otherwise, he believes friendship is what holds everything together.

“And some of those long-term monogous relationships, not not some of them, all of them are based on the one common thread of any relationship I’ve ever had in my life. Friendship.”

Heyman also admitted that he wouldn’t want to date someone like himself. He explained that his children will always come first, followed by his dedication to pursuing his professional goals, leaving very little room for a romantic partner.

“I would never date me. Why not? Oh, because number one, my children come first. That’s number one. We have to accept that premise. My children come first. Secondly, in many ways, my self-committed slavery to the cause of pursuing dreams is going to come second.”

For Heyman, marriage isn’t necessary to maintain a serious relationship, and he’s not interested in changing his priorities to make one work. He’s had long-term relationships, he’s open to monogamy, and he believes friendship matters more than a marriage certificate. But his admission that some of those relationships happened at the same time certainly adds another side to his personal life that fans don’t usually hear about.

What do you think about Paul Heyman’s views on marriage and his admission that he’s had multiple long-term relationships at once? Do you agree with his approach to relationships, or do you see things differently? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
