Pat McAfee and his family are dealing with a heartbreaking loss after saying goodbye to their longtime companion, Valerie Ann.
Samantha McAfee took to Instagram to share that their beloved dog Valerie Ann has passed away after a long and difficult health journey. The post wasn’t just an announcement; it was a detailed reflection on everything Valerie meant to them and the fight she put up over the years. She began by revealing when the loss happened and just how much time they were able to spend together, making it clear that even 14 years didn’t feel like enough.
“Last night we said goodbye to our girl, Valerie Ann. 14 years was never going to be enough time with you.”
Samantha then went into Valerie’s health battles, explaining that this wasn’t a sudden loss but the result of years of resilience, including multiple fights with cancer.
“You fought harder than anyone could have expected. Beating cancer four times, and even when it came back again, you still showed us what strength, resilience, and love look like.”
She also detailed the other physical challenges Valerie endured throughout her life, highlighting how she continued to show the same gentle personality despite everything she faced.
“You faced every challenge with bravery, from shar pei fever to losing your hearing, and even in your hardest moments, you remained the sweetest, most gentle soul.”
Samantha made it clear that Valerie’s impact went far beyond just their home. She explained that their dog’s journey directly inspired them to create something bigger to help others going through similar situations.
“You didn’t just change our lives, you changed so many others. Because of you, we were inspired to start a Fur The Brand foundation that has helped hundreds of families through their own canine cancer battles and get more time with their beloved dogs. That is your legacy. That is your impact.”
She then shared how Valerie spent her final moments, making it clear that she was surrounded by comfort and love. Samantha closed by reflecting on Valerie’s personality and the lasting impact she leaves behind.
“Valerie passed peacefully at home, in our arms, surrounded by love and some chocolate treats, exactly where you belonged. You were truly one of a kind, so intelligent, so strong, and so deeply loved. Thank you for everything you gave us. We will carry you with us forever. Run free, sweet girl 🤍”
At the end of the day, this wasn’t just a pet; this was family. Valerie’s story clearly meant everything to them, and the legacy she leaves behind goes beyond memories: it’s something that’s already helped others dealing with similar struggles.
