PAC may have had creative frustrations during his AEW run, but according to Tony Schiavone, he never let them become a problem behind the scenes.
Speaking on What Happened When, Schiavone reflected on why Benjamin Satterley was so universally respected in wrestling following his passing. After Conrad Thompson pointed out that he’d never heard anyone speak negatively about PAC, Schiavone said there was a simple reason for that.
“Yeah. And the reason no one said anything bad about PAC was he never did anything to warrant that.”
Schiavone explained that he and PAC spoke often, so he knew there were times when the former AEW star wasn’t completely happy with the creative direction he was given. However, he made it clear those frustrations had nothing to do with wins and losses.
“He was always just a gentleman. Now, I know from talking to him, and he and I talked a lot, I know from talking to him that he was frustrated about some of the things that, well, maybe he didn’t necessarily agree with. And I’m not talking about wins or losses. I’m just talking about matches or angles or whatever.”
Even when PAC disagreed with something creatively, Schiavone said he handled it professionally. Rather than complaining or making life difficult for anyone backstage, he simply went out and did his job.
“But he always did it and didn’t complain and didn’t make a fuss and wasn’t difficult with the coaches.”
Looking back, Schiavone believes that’s exactly why PAC earned so much respect throughout the wrestling business.
“And so the reason you never heard anything bad about him was he never did anything to warrant that. Great human being. And it’s going to be a terrible void.”
While fans will always remember PAC for what he did inside the ring, Schiavone’s comments paint a picture of someone who also earned enormous respect behind the scenes. Even when he didn’t agree with a storyline or match, he kept those conversations professional and never let them become an issue for the people around him.
