Orange Cassidy may be known for moving at his own pace inside an AEW ring, but he already knows exactly which superhero he wants to play if Hollywood ever comes calling — The Flash.
Cassidy revealed his dream DC role during a conversation with Simon Miller on Under The Mat With Simon Miller, after the discussion unexpectedly shifted from professional wrestling into comic-book movies and superhero casting. The conversation initially started with Miller asking Cassidy about his dream choice to play Wolverine. Cassidy threw his support behind Henry Cavill after Marvel previously teased him in the role.
“Would like to see Henry Cavill just ’cause they teased it once.”
When Miller expanded the conversation to other Marvel casting possibilities, Cassidy made it clear his real interest is somewhere else entirely.
“I mean, I would actually like to be in the DCU.”
Miller immediately asked which character Cassidy would want to play, and the AEW star didn’t need much time to think about it.
“Flash. So, I think it’d be funny.”
Miller was actually on board with the idea, pointing out that Cassidy could fit the character. Cassidy then joked about Barry Allen being blond as they imagined him taking over the role.
“Wasn’t I a Flash blonde? Barry blonde. Like Barry could be Barry.”
Cassidy’s interest in the DC Universe goes beyond wanting a superhero gig. He also revealed that he was a big fan of the recent Superman movie.
“I would love to, ’cause that Superman movie was great.”
The AEW star had very little patience for some of the criticism surrounding the film, arguing that certain viewers simply didn’t like seeing something different from what they were accustomed to. Cassidy then doubled down on why he enjoyed the movie.
“People just want to complain to complain.”
“Because it’s not what they’re used to. Like, shut up. It was just a nice, fun movie.”
Cassidy also liked seeing Superman portrayed as someone who didn’t always seem completely untouchable. In his eyes, Clark Kent doesn’t need to be presented as the coolest man alive for the character to work.
“I don’t think Superman needs to be a super cool guy.”
Cassidy explained that Superman being an alien who doesn’t completely understand everything around him is part of what makes the character interesting. He then took aim at complaints about James Gunn making Superman more relatable and vulnerable instead of treating him like an unbeatable force.
“Just needs to be a homely guy. Like, he’s an alien. He shouldn’t know what he’s doing.”
“Like, oh, I’m so sorry James Gunn made Superman relatable. Oh, like he’s not just an invincible being. Like he actually can be hurt. That’s great.”
Whether Cassidy ever gets the chance to throw on The Flash suit remains to be seen, but the casting would certainly be something. A superhero famous for moving faster than anyone alive being played by a wrestler whose entire gimmick revolves around doing as little as possible might be exactly the kind of ridiculous combination that somehow works.
