WWE isn’t wasting any time tonight, because the August 25 episode of NXT is opening with one of the nastiest matches on the entire card.
About 45 minutes before the show went live, NXT General Manager Robert Stone took to Twitter and announced that Dion Lennox vs. Saquon Shugars inside the Weaponized Steel Cage will kick off tonight’s broadcast from the WWE Performance Center.
That means fans won’t have to wait around for the violence. Lennox and Shugars have been building toward this fight for weeks, and WWE is throwing them straight into the cage as soon as NXT hits The CW at 8 PM ET.
The rest of the show is loaded too. Rey Fenix will defend the AAA Cruiserweight Championship against EK Prosper, while Zaria faces Kali Armstrong with a spot in the Women’s North American Championship and WWE Women’s Speed Championship unification match at Heatwave hanging in the balance.
Sean Legacy, Dorian Van Dux, Romeo Moreno and Noam Dar will also team up against BirthRight’s Lexis King, Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo, Uriah Connors and Charlie Dempsey.
WWE already revealed that the show will close with a Heat Wave Summit featuring NXT Champion Tony D’Angelo, Grayson Waller, Cruz Montana, Zilla Fatu, NXT Women’s Champion Kendal Grey and Kelani Jordan. Now we know exactly how the night is starting too. So WWE has the two ends of tonight’s go-home show locked down: a Weaponized Steel Cage Match to open the night and six Heatwave title contenders sharing the ring to close it.
