Oba Femi isn’t shy about where he thinks he belongs in WWE—and he believes Bron Breakker is chasing the same spot for all the wrong reasons.
During an interview about his WWE career with ABC 33/40, Femi was asked about his rivalry with Breakker and what it means when both men are being positioned as possible future faces of the company. Femi said the rivalry exposes a major difference between the way the two men view their place in WWE. In his eyes, he already has the position Breakker wants. The problem, according to Femi, is why Breakker believes he should have it.
“I mean, it just shows me the difference in how we think about it. Like, I know I’m in that position that he wants, but he wants it for the wrong reasons. I think he wants it because he thinks it’s his birthright. I think he wants it because, you know, he’s a Steiner and his family is ingrained in wrestling history and all that stuff.”
Breakker is the son of Rick Steiner and nephew of Scott Steiner, giving him one of the most recognizable wrestling bloodlines in the business. Femi doesn’t believe that guarantees anything. He argued that no matter someone’s family name, there can always be somebody bigger, stronger or better waiting for the same opportunity. Then he made it personal.
“But that’s, like I said, that’s not a guarantee. There’s always someone bigger, better, faster, stronger out there. And unfortunately for Bronny Boy, that person is in the same ecosystem as him right now.”
That “Bronny Boy” line tells you just about everything you need to know about how Femi views this fight. Breakker may have the Steiner legacy behind him, but Femi clearly believes the future of WWE isn’t inherited. In his mind, Breakker has to go through him if he wants to become the man at the top of the company. WWE has two powerhouse stars who both believe they should lead the next generation, and Femi has now made his position crystal clear: a famous last name isn’t enough.
