The October 16 NXT live event in Sudbury, Ontario ended on a scary note after Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo took a nasty fall during the main event and had to be stretchered out.
Stacks was competing as part of Birthright against Tony D’Angelo, Tavion Heights, Shiloh Hill and Shawn Spears in an eight-man tag team match when everything suddenly came to a halt.
During the match, Stacks took a back body drop to the outside and appeared to catch his face on the ring post before crashing hard onto his back on the floor. That was enough for the referee to immediately realize something was wrong.
The dreaded “X” signal went up, medical personnel rushed to ringside, and the match was stopped instead of trying to force the rest of the main event to continue. A stretcher was then brought out while Stacks was being checked over at ringside. He was ultimately taken out on the stretcher, bringing the show to an abrupt and uncomfortable ending.
There is still no confirmed word on exactly what Stacks injured or how serious the situation is. For now, the biggest takeaway is that WWE didn’t mess around once it became clear something had gone wrong. The referee stopped the match immediately, medical staff stepped in, and Stacks was removed from the ringside area on a stretcher.
That is never the way anyone wants to see a live event end, especially during the main event. Now the attention turns to Stacks and whether WWE provides any update on his condition after what looked like a brutal landing.
