Nikki Bella’s WWE comeback is no longer just something fans are hoping for. Her name is officially back in the company’s creative discussions as she continues testing her injured ankle inside the ring.
WrestleVotes Radio revealed on Fightful Select that WWE has started discussing Nikki creatively again for the first time since WrestleMania. The renewed conversations are being viewed backstage as a strong sign that her return may finally be getting close.
“It appears Nikki Bella is progressing towards a return, as we’re told her name has been mentioned creatively over the past several weeks for the first time since WrestleMania. According to a source, the renewed creative discussion is viewed internally as a positive sign that her return may not be that far off.”
That update comes after Nikki revealed on her Instagram Story that she had returned to the ring for training. She shared photos from the session alongside her son Matteo, showing that her recovery has moved beyond basic rehabilitation and into actual in-ring work.
Nikki suffered an ankle injury that derailed WWE’s original WrestleMania plans for the Bella Twins. Nikki and Brie Bella were expected to team together and leave the show with the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships, but WWE was forced to replace Nikki with Paige after the injury. Joey Votes explained that WWE had major plans for the sisters before Nikki was taken out of the match.
“They had grand plans for the Bella Twins at WrestleMania to walk in and then walk out with the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships. Those championships—one with Brie Bella, the other with Paige, who replaced Nikki Bella.”
TC then floated the idea of Nikki returning and attempting to reclaim her original position beside Brie. However, that was his own prediction and not something confirmed by WWE sources. He suggested that Paige and Brie could eventually lose the championships before Brie turns on Paige and reunites with her sister.
“When Nikki Bella returns, I absolutely see her wanting to take Paige’s spot. How do you do that? You get Paige out of the mix.”
“Maybe Paige takes a loss, you see Brie turn on Paige, and that’s the reinsertion of Nikki Bella here into the fold.”
Again, that possible storyline was fantasy booking from TC. The actual backstage update is that Nikki’s name is once again being discussed by WWE creative and that those conversations are being treated as a positive sign.
Nikki still has to make sure her ankle can handle the demands of a WWE schedule, but returning to the ring and reentering creative discussions are two major steps toward getting her back on television. Now it appears the question is becoming when Nikki Bella returns—not whether she will.
