Nikki Bella is opening up in a big way, and this time, the focus isn’t just on her return timeline, but on how difficult it’s been to hide the true severity of her ankle injury.
Speaking on her vlog, Nikki Bella opened up about the reality of recovering from the ankle injury that forced her out of WrestleMania 42, and why the experience has been harder than expected. According to Nikki, the pain has been intense since surgery.
“A lot of pain—just so much pain. It’s crazy how bad this hurts. But the nurse warned me about the ankles, and I can’t even put it flat in the boot. Did you see what the girls did last night on SmackDown? They announced my injury, but not the surgery. Yeah, they said rehabbing.”
But the bigger issue wasn’t just physical. Nikki admitted the emotional toll came from having to downplay the severity of the injury publicly, something she says didn’t sit right with her at all.
“I’ve been sad. I’ve had some really, really hard days—lots of tears, frustration, anger. For me, it’s been hard because we’ve had to play that I’m not, like, injured. That’s the other thing I think that’s made it even harder on me. I have to sit here and pretend—surgery, I mean, a major surgery. Bella Army, just know I hated lying to you guys. It was really hard on me.”
She made it clear why that conflict hit so deeply, pointing to the foundation of her “Fearless Nikki” character on WWE television, which is what she’s used to connect to her fans worldwide.
“My character is very much based on how I connect with my fan base worldwide—based off the things I’ve overcome, the things I’ll continue to have to overcome, and what happens in my life and my journey. That’s me—that’s my character. That’s why I’m called Fearless Nikki.”
This changes the conversation. Instead of just focusing on when she might return, it just shows what she’s been dealing with privately, especially after previously estimating a 6–8 week recovery window and targeting June as a potential comeback period.
That timeline still lines up with Night of Champions on June 27, but Nikki’s comments make it clear the road back hasn’t been easy, and keeping the full truth quiet made it even tougher. She’s still aiming for that June window, but her comments show the biggest challenge hasn’t just been recovery; it’s been balancing that recovery with expectations and perception.
Do you think Nikki Bella could have been more open about her surgery from the start, or was keeping it quiet the right move? Let me know your thoughts.
