Nick LoPiccolo posted a warning about people trying to control the conversation around AEW—and hours later, someone tried to slap that same post with a false Community Note.
The proposed note targeted LoPiccolo’s reference to Tony Khan once saying there was “only room for one Khan” in professional wrestling. It claimed the line came from a spoof advertisement during AEW’s partnership with Time Warner and included a YouTube link as evidence.
The problem was simple: the note linked to the wrong video. LoPiccolo immediately noticed the mistake and mocked the failed attempt to correct him. He followed that up by pointing out that the clip included in the note wasn’t even the advertisement he had referenced.
“Wait, did they try to Community Note me with the wrong fucking video?”
“This is the wrong video. Here is the right one.”
The proposed note also failed to make it onto LoPiccolo’s public post. Screenshots showed it was still marked “Needs more ratings” and “Not shown on X,” meaning users had not approved it as useful context.
That made the timing look even worse. LoPiccolo had just accused people of trying to shape the AEW conversation, discredit critics and steer attention away from what they were actually saying. Then someone attempted to correct his post using a video that didn’t match the claim. LoPiccolo called out exactly how badly the move backfired.
“You tried to Community Note a very real post about using the internet to silence people with a spoof ad proving nothing. You’re literally doing the thing in the post while trying to disprove the post.”
The timing is sketchy as hell. LoPiccolo posts about efforts to control the AEW narrative, and then hours later, that exact post gets hit with a bogus Community Note built around the wrong video. That doesn’t prove who was behind it, but it sure makes the whole thing look like accounts that don’t fall in line with the preferred AEW narrative are being singled out.
