Myles Borne has heard the Randy Orton comparisons for years, but according to him, this didn’t just start after he joined WWE — it goes all the way back to when he was a kid.
While speaking with Denise Salcedo, the NXT Men’s North American Champion explained that people have been stopping him in public for years because of how much they think he looks like Randy Orton.
Borne said the comparisons didn’t begin once he entered WWE, even though many fans assume that’s when it started.
“A lot of people said that the comparison started just here. That's actually not true. I remember growing up, people actually stopped me and my mother in public, and would ask if I was related to Randy. I would just laugh about it. I was like ‘why would you think that?’”
Those moments didn’t stop as he got older either. Borne recalled one strange moment before his WWE tryout when he and his mother were eating at Texas Roadhouse and noticed several men staring at them before eventually approaching.
“I remember before my tryout, me and my mom were eating at Texas Roadhouse, and these four guys were just staring at us while we were eating. They followed us across the street and then came up and asked if I was Randy Orton’s son.”
Despite the awkward moments, Borne made it clear he takes the comparisons as a compliment, especially because Orton played such a big role in inspiring his wrestling career.
“It's cool to be compared to him because he's such a legend. He is someone who I grew up watching. He inspired me. And he's one of the reasons I'm here now.”
Borne has been building momentum in NXT in recent months. He captured the NXT North American Championship on the February 24 episode of NXT by defeating Ethan Page and has continued to prove himself with successful defenses since then.
His recent win over Johnny Gargano at NXT Stand & Deliver added even more credibility to his growing résumé, and the comparisons to Randy Orton don’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon.
