TJP would love to see WWE bring back the Cruiserweight Classic, and he isn’t just sitting around hoping somebody else comes up with the idea. Ten years after winning the original tournament, TJP says he’s among multiple people who have actually been pitching WWE on running it back.
While speaking to The Certified Mark Show, TJP was asked about 2026 marking the 10-year anniversary of the Cruiserweight Classic and whether he would be interested in another tournament. He didn’t hesitate, although he doesn’t necessarily need to be one of the wrestlers competing this time.
“Oh, I would love to. I would even just love to host it, cuz I was, I coached a few times this year and been down in Orlando back and forth, and I was walking through the warehouse with Lince Dorado.”
That trip through WWE’s warehouse actually helped get TJP thinking about the Cruiserweight Classic again. He and Dorado, who TJP described as his best friend in wrestling, were going through WWE’s collection when Dorado told him there was something he needed to see.
“He’s my best friend in the industry. And we’re walking through and he goes, ‘I need to show you something.’ It’s like the Raiders of the Lost Ark. Like, they have all these, like, WWE artifacts from, like, every, like, and he goes, ‘Look at this.’”
Dorado then pulled the covering off an old, dusty piece of WWE history. Sitting there was the trophy TJP won at the original Cruiserweight Classic in 2016.
“And he’s this old dusty thing. He just yanks down this, like, canvas blanket thing. It’s the old dusty trophy, and we found it.”
TJP already has plenty of memorabilia from winning the tournament, including the championship and the medal WWE gave its finalists. Seeing that trophy again, however, got him and Dorado talking about whether it was finally time to bring the whole thing back.
“But, yeah, we found the trophy and we were like, ‘Man, we should, like, try to, like, just pitch it around the room until somebody makes it,’ you know?”
That’s when TJP revealed they aren’t the only ones interested. According to him, multiple people have been pitching another Cruiserweight Classic, and he’s personally one of them.
“The amount of people that have been pitching for it, including myself, man. I mean, I loved it. Like, why not run it back? It did so well, you know?”
TJP and Dorado apparently plan on continuing to put the idea in front of people in hopes that eventually someone inside WWE decides to make it happen.
“We should pitch it around the room to see if somebody will make it happen.”
There’s still no indication WWE has actually approved a second Cruiserweight Classic, so TJP’s comments reveal that the idea is apparently being discussed and pitched by more than one person, with the winner of the original tournament actively pushing for it himself. Ten years later, the trophy may be collecting dust in WWE’s warehouse, but TJP clearly doesn’t think the Cruiserweight Classic itself should stay there with it.
