The Miz has seen enough of Bleacher Report’s WWE grades. He doesn’t think they’re simply too harsh. He thinks the person handing them out grades wrestling “like a mark.”
Miz unloaded on the outlet’s wrestling coverage while speaking to WrestleRant, arguing that the grades aren’t always realistic to what WWE is actually trying to accomplish with its shows.
“I imagine when I say something about your grades and how they are always terrible and not really realistic of what the show — like, when I watch, I watch the show and I can grade the show. Cuz I know what it is.”
But Miz’s complaint wasn’t that WWE needs better grades. He made that clear when the conversation turned to whether Bleacher Report’s reviews are simply too negative. Miz said positive or negative doesn’t matter nearly as much as the perspective the person grading wrestling is bringing to it.
“When this person grades the show, I feel like they grade like a mark. It’s not even — it’s not even that it has to be negative or positive.”
That’s where Miz compared Bleacher Report’s wrestling coverage to the rest of the outlet. He considers its football, baseball, basketball and fantasy coverage top-level. Wrestling is where he believes that standard disappears.
“I feel like Bleacher Report is very knowledgeable in sports, okay? When I look at all of the stuff that’s on there, whether it’s for fantasy or for football, baseball, basketball, I see top-notch, top-tier talent on there.
When I look at it at wrestling, I go, ‘This guy’s a mark.’”
Miz wasn’t dismissing criticism altogether either. In fact, he said he actively wants criticism when there’s something useful behind it.
“I don’t mind criticism. As a matter of fact, I encourage criticism because it will make me better.
Sometimes when a fan says something, I’ll go, ‘Oh, that is interesting. That’s a good take on something. I understand that.’ You know, so I’ll learn from it.”
What gets a very different reaction is someone simply telling him he sucks, shouldn’t be there or deserves to be fired.
“If someone’s just like, ‘You suck,’ or ‘I hate you,’ or ‘You don’t deserve to be here. I wish you were fired,’ this, that, and the other thing — like that puts a chip on my shoulder.
That’s what’s honestly revved me up for the past 20 years. Hearing the negativity.”
The comments come after Bleacher Report caught plenty of heat from fans for giving Liv Morgan vs. IYO SKY a C+ at SummerSlam Night One. Fans spent days arguing that the Women’s World Championship match deserved considerably better.
Now Miz is taking aim at the grading itself. He isn’t asking Bleacher Report to praise WWE or stop criticizing it. He just thinks the person grading the shows is looking at wrestling like a fan rather than understanding what WWE is actually trying to do.
