The Miz has a problem with the way Sami Zayn is being treated as WWE Champion, and he believes the criticism has gotten completely out of hand. The former WWE Champion isn’t just calling out people on social media either — he believes Zayn deserves more respect from the entire WWE locker room.
During an interview with Z100 New York, The Miz was asked to name the most underrated WWE Superstar. He initially named himself before shifting his attention to Zayn, praising the work he’s been doing as WWE Champion and questioning why so many people continue to dismiss him.
Miz pointed out that Zayn has several Superstars chasing his championship and that his reign could end on any given episode of SmackDown. Despite that pressure, he believes Zayn isn’t receiving the recognition he deserves.
“Well, me. I I mean, am I allowed to say myself? And I also think that Sami Zayn and what he’s doing with the WWE Championship right now is applaudable. Like Like I applaud him. Everyone else is like, ‘Ah, Sami’s a joke. Are you kidding me? Why is this guy He Everything revolves around what he is doing with the WWE championship.’ And there are so many people that are vying for that championship that you literally any given moment, any given SmackDown, he could lose it.”
Miz then made it clear that he understands exactly what Zayn is experiencing. He even suggested that rather than pursuing the WWE Championship himself, he’d prefer to stand alongside Zayn because of their shared experiences dealing with criticism. More importantly, Miz argued that the WWE locker room needs to recognize what Zayn is accomplishing as champion.
“And anyone could do it. I could be thrust into the WWE championship. I don’t want to be actually. I want to be with Sami Zayn because I understand everything he’s going through. He is so underappreciated, undervalued, and I believe that a Sami Zayn deserves the respect from not only the audience, but all the WWE superstars in the locker room, Raw, SmackDown, and what he’s able to do in carrying the show.”
The interviewer joked that Miz sounded like he was cutting a promo, but Miz insisted that he genuinely feels this way. He then brought up his own WWE Championship reign in 2011, when he faced criticism over his position as one of the company’s biggest stars. According to Miz, watching Zayn receive similar treatment brings back those frustrations. He also took aim at social media users who continually attack WWE Champions.
“Yeah, that basically that But that’s the way I I truly feel. Like it angers me because I remember when I was a WWE champion in 2011, and everyone’s like, ‘Ah, The Miz. Uh, how dare him? Why is he winning all the time? Why is everything revolving around him? Uh, uh, uh.’ And you just hear And now with social media, it’s just a bunch of bullies like take it like going after the WWE champion. You’re lucky that you can even talk to him.”
Miz knows what it’s like to be the center of WWE programming while dealing with criticism from every direction. His comments suggest that he sees plenty of similarities between his own championship run and what Zayn is experiencing today. Whether the rest of the locker room agrees with him is another question, but Miz clearly believes Zayn has earned considerably more respect than he’s receiving.
