Mickie Knuckles is in a hospital burn unit after a wrestling match went horribly wrong. The hardcore wrestling veteran was badly burned during the match, and days later her injuries became serious enough that she had to be admitted for treatment.
Now her friends are asking wrestling fans to help. A GoFundMe titled “Support Mickie Knuckles’ Healing Journey” was launched by Joshua Evans, who revealed Knuckles remains in the burn unit and could be staring down a difficult recovery.
“As many of you have seen, one of my best friends, Mickie Knuckles, was badly burned during a wrestling match. A couple of days later, her injuries required her to be admitted to the hospital’s burn unit, where she remains receiving treatment and beginning what may be a difficult road to recovery.”
The situation hits even harder because Knuckles isn’t just losing time in the ring. Wrestling is how she makes her living, and she has two children depending on her at home.
“Anyone who knows Mickie knows just how tough she is. But more importantly, behind the wrestler everyone knows and loves, Mickie is a devoted mother to two beautiful children who depend on her.”
Knuckles normally makes her money by traveling from town to town and taking wrestling bookings. That income has now come to a screeching halt. More canceled dates could follow depending on how long Knuckles remains hospitalized.
“Unfortunately, being confined to the hospital has already forced her to cancel several wrestling appearances. For an independent professional wrestler, canceled bookings mean lost income.”
“As she continues receiving treatment and focuses on healing, there may be additional bookings, travel opportunities, and income she simply cannot take on.”
Evans made it clear Knuckles has enough on her plate without having to worry about where her next paycheck is coming from. The fundraiser is now calling on fans who have watched Knuckles put her body through hell for years to return the favor.
“Right now, Mickie’s only job should be getting better—not worrying about how she is going to provide for her children while she is unable to work.”
“If Mickie has ever entertained you, inspired you, made you laugh, scared the hell out of you in a wrestling ring, or simply been there for you as a friend, now is our opportunity to be there for her.”
Evans also said any donation will help cover the financial hit caused by the hospital stay and lost bookings. Fans who can’t donate are being asked to share the fundraiser instead.
“Mickie has spent years giving everything she has to professional wrestling and its fans. Now it’s our turn to show the Godmother of Hardcore just how many people are standing in her corner.”
This isn’t Knuckles’ first brutal injury either. Back in 2008, shortly after landing in TNA as Moose, she broke her femur during an IWA Mid-South match against Sara Del Rey. Surgery and complications wrecked the momentum behind that run, and TNA eventually released her before she could get back on track.
Knuckles has built an entire career around surviving punishment most people wouldn’t even think about taking. This time, though, she isn’t shaking it off and heading to the next town. She’s in a burn unit, the bookings are gone for now, and the only fight that matters is getting healthy enough to go home to her kids.
