Mick Foley is officially sitting out AEW Forbidden Door, and it has nothing to do with injury, creative plans, or second thoughts about joining the company. Instead, the WWE Hall of Famer is apparently stuck honoring a prior booking.

According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Daily Update, Foley will not be in San Jose for Forbidden Door because he already had a contractual commitment for a comedy show in Seabrook, New Hampshire on the same date. Foley reportedly tried to get the appearance moved around, but it just was not happening.

“Mick Foley won’t be in San Jose for Forbidden Door as he had a contractual date for a comedy show in Seabrook, NH, that he did attempt to get changed, but was unable to do so.”

The good news for AEW fans is that this sounds more like a scheduling headache than an actual absence. Meltzer noted that Foley has already worked to clear his calendar after Forbidden Door, meaning AEW should have access to him for television and pay-per-view appearances for most of the rest of the year.

“He has cleared his schedule after San Jose so that he should be available for both Dynamite or PPV shows when needed through September as well as in November and December.”

The Hardcore Legend also explained that he was already booked solid before agreeing to work with AEW, saying 2025 ended up being one of the busiest years of his career.

“Foley noted to us that in 2025 he was busier and on the road more than any time in his life as a pro wrestler and had booked 2026 pretty solid as well before signing.”

The timing is a little unfortunate considering Foley just debuted for AEW during Double or Nothing weekend and has openly praised the company’s atmosphere, comparing the backstage vibe to the Attitude Era. Fans hoping to see him pop up at Forbidden Door will have to wait a bit longer, but it sounds like Foley’s AEW run is far from a one-off appearance.

For now, Foley will be making people laugh in New Hampshire while AEW runs one of its biggest events of the year in California. Not exactly the hardcore ending fans expected, but it looks like he’ll have plenty of opportunities to show up on Dynamite and future PPVs once Forbidden Door is in the rearview mirror.

Do you think AEW should have found a bigger role for Mick Foley at Forbidden Door, or is it better to save his appearances for later in the year? Let us know your thoughts and leave your feedback below.
