Mick Foley’s bizarre £900 charity auction situation has a happy ending after all. The two fans who ran off with Foley’s shirts without paying have now made what he described as a “very generous donation” to the Cauliflower Alley Club.
The Hardcore Legend took to his Instagram Story with the good news after previously giving the two men a couple of days to make things right. Apparently, they didn’t need that long.
“Hello everyone, it’s Mick Foley with an update, and it’s good news. The two gentlemen, they were inebriated when they ran off with the shirt.”
More importantly, Foley says the two fans have now provided him with proof that they followed through with a donation. He didn’t reveal exactly how much they gave, but he was clearly satisfied with what he saw.
“They have just shown me proof that they made a very generous donation to the Cauliflower Alley Club.”
That was enough for Foley to put the whole thing behind him. Rather than continuing to threaten to identify the two men, he made it clear that he believes people deserve another chance when they screw up.
“I believe in second chances. People mess up, especially when drinking.”
As far as Foley is concerned, that closes the book on what had become a pretty ridiculous situation. The two fans made good on their promise, the Cauliflower Alley Club got its donation, and Foley isn’t holding a grudge.
“These two guys made good on their promise. So, gentlemen, thank you, and all’s well that ends well.”
That’s a much different ending than things appeared to be heading toward just hours earlier. The trouble started during Foley’s comedy show in Birmingham, England, where he held his usual “shirt off my back” charity auction. Two fans placed the winning £900 bid for Foley’s T-shirt and outer shirt, got them autographed and even posed for photos with him before running off without paying.
Foley initially wasn’t amused. He said there were cameras everywhere, claimed they knew who the two men were and gave them a couple of days to either return the shirts or make some kind of donation.
“At the very least, you return the shirt. It would be really nice if you made a donation. I don’t expect £900, that’s a lot of money.”
He also suspected drinking may have played a part in what happened, which apparently turned out to be the case. There won’t be any public shaming now. Foley got proof of the donation, the two fans made things right, and he’s willing to leave their drunken mistake in Birmingham. Not a bad ending for a story that started with two guys running out the door with Mick Foley’s clothes.
