Maxxine Dupri is done being overlooked, and now she is standing with The Vision.
On the July 6 episode of Monday Night Raw, The Street Profits defended the WWE World Tag Team Championship against Bron Breakker and Austin Theory. The finish got ugly when Logan Paul distracted the referee, giving Dupri the opening to rush the ring and deliver a low blow to Angelo Dawkins. That was all The Vision needed. Breakker and Theory walked out with the titles, and Dupri made her new loyalty clear when she jumped into Theory’s arms and kissed him.
While speaking on Complex Graps, Dupri explained that the past year pushed her to make a hard choice. She said winning and losing her first title, along with missed opportunities, made her realize she had to put herself first. Dupri said the turn came down to one thing: choosing herself.
“So much has changed, so much has happened in the past year, the past six months. I won my first title. I lost my first title. I lost a lot of opportunities. I wasn’t being given opportunities. I was continuing to be overlooked, but not by Austin, of course.”
“I think I just came to a point where at some point, you have to choose yourself, and I chose me, and I did what needed to be done.”
She also made it clear that Austin Theory played a major part in that decision. Dupri said she wants to be around the best, and in her eyes, Theory fits that spot.
“I mean, have you seen him? The answer’s pretty clear, and I wanna be with the best of the best.”
Dupri then explained the mindset behind joining The Vision and surrounding herself with people she believes can take her higher.
“You are the average of the five people you surround yourself with, and so I’m gonna surround myself with the best.”
Dupri also addressed her split from Alpha Academy. She had been aligned with Otis and Akira Tozawa for a long time, but she said that loyalty did not get her where she wanted to go.
“It just got to a point where I had to choose me. I’ve been choosing them for years, and that hasn’t gotten me anywhere.”
She then pointed to her issues with Becky Lynch and questioned why Alpha Academy was not there when she needed backup. Dupri closed by saying the move was not personal. To her, Austin Theory showed up when nobody else did, and that made her choice easy.
“Let’s not forget, all those times when Becky was getting disqualified and purposely doing things so that I couldn’t win the title, where were they? Were they ever ringside for me?”
“It’s not personal, it’s just about me choosing me, but no one has been choosing me. Literally no one, and Austin has chosen me, so I’m choosing him, and I’m choosing Maxxine.”
Maxxine Dupri’s heel turn gives The Vision another dangerous piece, and it also gives her a fresh direction after months of frustration. Whether fans like it or not, she is no longer waiting for someone else to hand her a moment.
