Maven isn’t interested in turning his criticism of Jackson Drake into a real feud. But he also wasn’t about to let the NXT star’s insults go unanswered.
The former WWE star finally addressed Drake’s rant on his YouTube channel after the NXT star blasted him for criticizing his acting and mocked everything from his WWE career to his wrestling advice. But instead of matching Drake’s energy, Maven flipped the whole thing on its head.
“But in all seriousness, Jackson, we did not mean to upset you. And if our video struck a nerve, I promise you that was not the intent.”
That was about as serious as things stayed. Drake had famously called Maven a “fossil” while claiming he’d already made a bigger impact in six months than Maven did during four years in WWE. Maven didn’t get offended. He turned the insult into the first joke of the video.
“First of all, Jackson, you called me a fossil. Well, I have yet to see an archaeologist that finds fossils and isn’t excited. So, hey buddy, thanks. I’ll actually take that one.”
Then he tackled Drake’s claim that his acting was “10 times better” than anything Maven had ever done in wrestling.
“I would’ve thought being in the ring with guys like Stone Cold, The Undertaker, Goldust, and even tagging with your esteemed Hall of Fame trainer Shawn Michaels… I would’ve figured at least they got some credit, but I guess not.”
Drake also claimed nobody wanted Maven’s wrestling advice. Maven couldn’t resist another shot. Just when it looked like the video was building toward another roast, Maven completely changed directions. Instead of burying Drake, he praised him.
“The beautiful part about YouTube is no one has to ask. We put content out, people can choose to watch and we’re happy when they do… And Jackson, I’m glad you do too, buddy. Jackson, I have no doubt that you will go on to do better things than I did. I have no doubt you will make a bigger impact, and I am indeed now a fan. I’ll be watching you and looking forward to seeing what you bring to the world of professional wrestling.”
But Maven wasn’t about to leave without getting one more joke in. After sharing advice he’d learned in WWE about never letting people know they’ve gotten under your skin, he held up a signed 8×10 addressed to Drake.
“Jackson Blake Drake, thanks for watching. Fossil. There’s your 8×10… Personalized just for you. You can expect this in 15 to 17 business days.”
Drake probably expected a fight. Instead, Maven apologized, defended his career, gave him advice, called himself a fossil… and somehow still managed to troll him on the way out.
