Maven has taken plenty of shots at Triple H over the years, but now he’s explaining why The Game never fired back — and he actually gets it.
The former WWE Tough Enough winner previously accused Triple H of holding him back creatively during his WWE run. Maven claimed he later found out that Triple H allegedly shut down creative pitches for him in production meetings, even when others tried to push ideas for him. Maven said he did not know about it while he was still with WWE, but he later heard it from someone who was actually in those meetings.
“I didn’t know this during my time in the WWE, but I would have it confirmed years after my wrestling career had ended from someone who was actually in those production meetings, someone who went to bat for me that every time my name was brought up, it was quickly squashed back down. And who was the one doing the squashing? None other than Triple H.”
According to Maven, people would pitch new directions for him, only for those ideas to get knocked down because Triple H allegedly felt he was not ready.
“If people thought, ‘Hey, here’s a good idea. Here’s a good direction that we can send Maven on. Here’s something that we think he can find success doing.’ It would quickly be diminished. ‘Nah, he’s not ready. He’s not there yet. He needs a little bit more time, a little bit more seasoning.’”
Maven admitted Triple H may have had a point, because he was still green at the time. That said, Maven also believes other wrestlers at his level got stronger backing, while he had someone powerful pulling him back.
“And I’m not saying Triple H was wrong. He wasn’t. I did need more time and I wasn’t ready. But I also know that there’s been other people with the same skill level of me and they did get that extra boost, that extra push. It’s just hard to get that push when someone is constantly pulling you back and that someone has the ear of Vince McMahon.”
That is why Maven said he has sometimes taken what look like “pot shots” at Triple H over the years. He made it clear he does not blame Triple H for his entire career path, but finding out about those alleged production meeting conversations still stung.
“Finding out after my WWE career had ended that what I initially thought was indeed true, it hurt and it bothered me for a while. And so that’s why if you ever see me taking what looks like pot shots at the man, that’s probably my reasoning. That’s definitely some of my reasoning behind it. I in no way, shape, or form blame Triple H for my career arc, but it just does hurt sometimes knowing that he indeed was weighing in and weighing in, not on my behalf.”
Now, Maven is giving fans a new wrinkle to the story. While reacting to a video about things fans should never say to wrestlers, Maven brought up social media, negative comments, and why some people only try to get under a wrestler’s skin. That led him right back to Triple H. Maven said he has criticized Triple H in the past, but Triple H never responded. Instead of taking another shot, Maven said he understands exactly why Triple H stayed quiet.
“Nowadays, more than any time in my career, I do understand social media is a tool, and the comment section is an extended tool. I also know some fans are just looking for attention, and they realize if they can get under your skin, they win. That’s all they’re looking to do. 90% of the comments we get are positive and uplifting. And for the 10% of mean comments, you have every right to not like me, but I have every right to not respond back, and that’s what I’ll do. It’s no secret that I’ve disagreed in the past with some of Triple H’s actions and antics, but he’s never responded back to me, and I understand why. For one, he has absolutely nothing to gain, and two, you never punch down in life.”
That line says a lot. Maven still has his feelings about what happened during his WWE run, but he also seems to understand the business side of Triple H ignoring him. From Triple H’s perspective, firing back at Maven would only drag him into a fight he did not need.
What do you think about Maven saying Triple H was smart not to respond to his shots? Did Triple H hold Maven back, or was Maven just not ready for a bigger WWE push at the time? Sound off in the comments and let us know where you stand.
