Matt Sydal is officially back in an AEW ring after nearly two years on the sidelines.

Sydal wrestled on the July 25 episode of AEW Collision, teaming with Scorpio Sky and Dante Martin as SkyFlight against The Lethal Twist’s Jay Lethal, Blake Christian and Lee Johnson.

The match marked Sydal’s first AEW bout since 2024. He returned to the company in June, but fans had been waiting to see when he would finally step back between the ropes. Sydal looked right at home alongside Sky and Martin, but the comeback did not end with a victory.

Ricochet got involved during the closing stretch of the match, giving The Lethal Twist the opening they needed to steal the win. The interference immediately dragged Sydal back into AEW’s ongoing drama and could point toward more trouble between SkyFlight and Ricochet moving forward.

Sydal may have come up short in his first match back, but getting through the bout was the bigger story. After nearly two years away from AEW competition, the veteran is healthy, active and back in the mix.

What did you think of Matt Sydal’s return match, and who should he face next in AEW? Leave your thoughts and feedback in the comments.
