Matt Cardona isn’t letting GUNTHER’s shot at Chelsea Green slide. Less than a day after punching The Ring General on WWE SmackDown, Cardona jumped on Instagram and basically went full Will Smith on him.
Cardona posted a photo from their confrontation and dropped one very familiar line:
“Keep my wife’s name out your f*****g mouth!”
If that sounds familiar, it should. Will Smith screamed nearly the same thing at Chris Rock during the 2022 Oscars after walking on stage and slapping him across the face over a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith. Smith went back to his seat and yelled at Rock to keep his wife’s name out of his mouth while the entire building tried to figure out what the hell had just happened. Cardona had his own reason for pulling out the line.
During the August 14 episode of SmackDown, GUNTHER got into it with Chelsea Green before Cardona came out. GUNTHER mocked Cardona for rushing to his wife’s defense and told him there was basically nothing he could do about whatever he wanted to say about her. Bad choice.
Cardona immediately punched GUNTHER in the face and sent him to the floor. That turned into an impromptu match, where Cardona got a few shots in before GUNTHER eventually wrecked him with powerbombs and forced him to tap out to the Boston Crab. So Cardona didn’t get the win, but he sure as hell got the last word on Instagram.
The Will Smith reference couldn’t have been much more obvious: somebody runs their mouth about your wife, you lose your temper and somebody gets hit. Only this time, GUNTHER was allowed to beat the hell out of Cardona afterward. Cardona clearly isn’t laughing this one off, either. He may have lost on SmackDown, but his message to GUNTHER couldn’t be any clearer — Chelsea Green is off limits.
