LA Knight just took the Roman Reigns debate and flipped it completely upside down.
Ahead of his World Heavyweight Championship match against Reigns at Money in the Bank, Knight made it clear he is not buying the idea that Roman is operating on some untouchable level above him. Knight actually gave Reigns credit for everything he has accomplished in WWE, but when it came down to comparing their roads to the top, Knight said Roman is the one who should be looking up.
During his appearance on TMZ’s Inside the Ring, Knight was asked if there was anything about Reigns he secretly respected going into their title match. Knight started by pointing out that he came into wrestling without family connections or anyone opening doors for him.
“Look, here’s the one thing that, again, for a guy who had no connections in the business. My dad loaded trucks for a living. And it’s a respectable living, but it didn’t do anything for me career-wise. You know what I mean?”
Knight then turned his attention to Reigns, saying Roman entered the business with major advantages because of his famous wrestling family. Still, Knight admitted that plenty of people have been handed similar opportunities and failed to capitalize.
“And it’s like when I look at that and here’s a guy in Roman who had a famous family and this, that, and it gave him all the advantages to get where he is. At the same time there’s plenty of guys who had those advantages and still fell short.”
Knight wasn’t trying to erase what Reigns has accomplished. He said Roman still had enormous expectations hanging over him and ultimately delivered.
“So there is still a lot of great expectation that was put on him and he still had to hold his end of the bargain up and he has certainly done that.”
That was about as nice as Knight was willing to get. Once the conversation shifted to fans who think Knight is not in Reigns’ league, he laughed off the idea and fired back with the line that will probably follow this feud straight into Money in the Bank.
“However, when people are like, you know, there’s a very small amount of people, if I’m honest, who are like, ‘Ah, you know, LA Knight’s not in Roman Reigns’ league.’ Huh? The guy came in the business here and now he’s here. I came in the business here and now I’m here. You ask me, he ain’t in my league.”
Knight doubled down by saying the biggest difference is what each man had waiting for him when he entered the business. In his eyes, Roman started with advantages Knight had to build from scratch.
“You look where I came from to where I am, it’s a whole different ballgame. So, I can respect everything that he has done and maintained with what he’s been given, but the key is it’s what he’s been given.”
The timing could not be much hotter. Knight and Reigns have already been tearing into each other heading into Money in the Bank, and their October 5 RAW confrontation made the rivalry even more personal as both men questioned whether the other truly belonged at the top.
Knight is not showing up in New Orleans hoping Roman Reigns accepts him as an equal. He is walking into Money in the Bank believing he had to fight harder, climb farther and earn more just to get into the same conversation — and now he wants the championship to prove it.
Do you agree with LA Knight that Roman Reigns “ain’t in my league,” or has Reigns already done enough to shut that argument down? Let us know what you think in the comments.
