LA Knight could walk into Money in the Bank chasing Roman Reigns and walk out having done something even Andre the Giant couldn’t match.
During an appearance on TMZ’s Inside the Ring, Knight was told that defeating Reigns for the World Heavyweight Championship would apparently give him the longest gap between a WWE debut and a first world title win. Knight’s first WWE match came 20 years ago on Sunday Night Heat, and the hosts told him that Andre previously held the mark at roughly 15 years. Knight clearly had no idea that piece of history was sitting there waiting for him. He admitted the Andre comparison had never even crossed his mind before the interview.
“Oh, that’s insane. ”You know, it’s crazy. Yeah, I hadn’t even considered that, thought of that, put that in perspective.”
Knight was already looking at Money in the Bank as a full-circle moment for a completely different reason. The show takes place in New Orleans, the same city where he had his first WWE main-roster match roughly four years earlier.
“Actually, the one thing I got fixated on is right here in New Orleans where Money in the Bank’s going to happen. I had my first main roster match almost exactly to the day four years ago in 2022.” Pasted markdown
That made Knight see the title match as a chance to close out one chapter of his career exactly where it started.
“So I was kind of thinking that how it feels kind of full circle where it’s like here’s my very first match on SmackDown in 2022 and now here’s where I’m gonna close the circle by becoming the World Heavyweight Champ.” Pasted markdown
Then Andre’s name got dropped into the equation, and suddenly Knight’s potential title win had another piece of history attached to it.
“But now you put it in that perspective where it’s like this 20-year journey, so to speak. Yeah, that adds a little extra sauce to it.” Pasted markdown
Things got even more interesting when the hosts pointed out that not many wrestlers get to say they broke a record held by Andre the Giant. Knight responded by teasing that there are actually other records he has already broken behind the scenes that fans may never have heard about.
“If there’s one thing I’m about — and there’s some records that people might never know behind the scenes that I’ve also broken that maybe I’ll talk about someday.” Pasted markdown
The hosts immediately tried to get him to spill the details, but Knight wasn’t giving that one away yet.
“Someday we’ll talk about that.” Pasted markdown
Knight connected those mystery accomplishments to the run that started exploding for him in 2023.
“Again, with the way that I kind of exploded in like 2023 and have continued that, it’s just put me in a very good spot where it’s led to a lot of firsts for some things.” Pasted markdown
The stakes are already massive because Roman Reigns is set to defend the World Heavyweight Championship against LA Knight at Money in the Bank, a match that came together after Knight attacked Reigns following RAW and Roman answered with an NSFW threat.
There is also another layer hanging over the match, since WWE currently has Knight vs. Reigns penciled in to close Money in the Bank. That gives Knight the biggest possible stage to finally grab the world title after years of fans asking when WWE would pull the trigger.
Knight has been fighting for this spot for two decades, and now he could leave New Orleans with Roman Reigns’ championship and a record that once belonged to Andre the Giant. That is about as wild of a payoff as you can get after spending 20 years waiting for the big one.
Do you think LA Knight finally beats Roman Reigns and breaks Andre the Giant’s record at Money in the Bank, or does the wait continue? Leave your thoughts and feedback in the comments.
