LA Knight is making it clear that his rise in WWE didn’t follow the same path as the legends he’s often compared to.

While appearing on Mackey & Judd, LA Knight pushed back on the idea that his rise mirrors stars like Bryan Danielson or Stone Cold Steve Austin. The conversation turned when the hosts brought up Danielson’s WrestleMania 30 momentum, but Knight quickly stepped in to explain why his situation was completely different. He laid out the key distinction — saying those names already had titles, storylines, and backing before their breakout moments, while he had none of that behind him.

"He is, but I’m gonna put a little asterisk there. Because a lot of people make that comparison to me, and I’m gonna tell you how mine’s completely different. His was a groundswell where the people took over and said, ‘Hey, we want this guy.’ But by that point, he had already been Intercontinental Champion, Tag Team Champion, and had major storylines. I had done literally nothing. I had no machine behind me—nothing."

Knight didn’t hold back when talking about one of the defining stretches of his run, either, pointing to his program with the late Bray Wyatt as a moment where he had to create his own opportunities, even when the spotlight wasn’t necessarily on him.

"I was fed to Bray Wyatt—God bless him—and in that process, I was able to shine just enough for people to say, ‘Wait, this guy’s pretty good.’ And from there, there was no plan. Nothing for me, nothing for me, nothing—but in those little one-minute chances, I made the most of it."

From there, Knight doubled down on what separates his rise from everyone else, arguing that even the biggest names in wrestling history didn’t build momentum the way he did — starting from what he describes as essentially nothing.

"So when we talk about a Bryan Danielson or Steve Austin, they had already had championship runs and pushes. I had nothing. I was doing jack nothing, and somehow built that groundswell. If you ask me—not to toot my own horn, but toot toot—nobody’s ever done what I’ve done."

He also pointed to crowd reactions as proof, saying his connection with audiences came long before any titles or major wins — something he believes sets him apart even further.

"Not to take anything away from Austin—he’s one of the greatest of all time—but his biggest reactions didn’t hit until he won the WWF Championship. Me? I was getting those reactions at Money in the Bank without winning anything, without doing anything, less than a year on the roster."

Knight made sure to clarify he’s not discrediting those legends, but from his perspective, the starting point matters, and that’s where he believes his story stands alone.

"Same thing with Danielson, same with all of them—I’m not taking anything away. They proved themselves. But from that starting point? Nobody’s ever done that from that depth."

Knight’s message is simple: the reaction he built didn’t come from a push; it came from making the most out of almost nothing, and he believes that’s what separates his rise from everyone else who came before him.
