Konosuke Takeshita isn’t wasting any time putting his newly won championship on the line.
Tony Khan has announced that Takeshita will defend the AEW International Championship against Daniel Garcia on the May 30 episode of Collision. The match will mark the first title defense of Takeshita’s reign after capturing the championship at Double or Nothing.
Takeshita won the title in one of the biggest victories of his AEW career when he defeated Kazuchika Okada at the pay-per-view. Now he’ll have to immediately deal with Daniel Garcia, who has spent the last several years establishing himself as one of AEW’s toughest competitors.
AEW will address the future of the vacant TBS Championship. The AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championships will also be on the line when Divine Dominion’s Megan Bayne and Lena Kross defend against Tay Melo and Anna Jay.
Elsewhere, The Conglomeration’s Orange Cassidy, Roderick Strong, and Kyle O’Reilly will defend the AEW World Trios Championships against Rocky Romero, Trent Beretta, and Lance Archer of the Don Callis Family.
The show will also feature Hazuki’s AEW debut against Maya World, with Persephone joining commentary ahead of their upcoming Owen Hart Foundation Tournament match.
Takeshita’s championship victory over Okada was one of the biggest stories coming out of Double or Nothing. Now the question becomes whether his reign gets off to a successful start or if Daniel Garcia can score one of the biggest wins of his AEW career.
