Kevin Owens found a different way to get under CM Punk’s skin ahead of their Undisputed WWE Championship match, and it involved Danhausen.
Just days after choosing to challenge Punk on the August 21 edition of SmackDown in his hometown of Toronto, Owens used Thursday night’s WWE live event in Manchester, New Hampshire to send the champion a message through one of his closest friends.
The night began with The Miz attacking Danhausen before Owens ran out to make the save. That led to an impromptu match between Owens and Miz, with the former Universal Champion picking up the win.
Owens wasn’t finished. After dropping The Miz with a Stunner, Owens turned his attention to Danhausen. Before delivering another Stunner, he explained exactly why the “Very Nice, Very Evil” star was about to become collateral damage.
“Now, I know these people really like you. The other thing I know—from what we call social media—is you’re pretty good friends with CM Punk, right? Well, I’m shocked that dude has friends at all, but since you are his bud, can you give him this message for me?”
The Prizefighter then planted Danhausen with a Stunner, using Punk’s friend to send a message before next week’s championship match.
The timing isn’t exactly a coincidence. On last week’s SmackDown, Owens confronted CM Punk before later informing Nick Aldis that he wanted his Undisputed WWE Championship opportunity to take place on the August 21 episode of SmackDown in Toronto.
With that title match now just days away, Owens appears determined to get inside Punk’s head any way he can—even if it means dropping one of his closest friends with a Stunner first.
