Kevin Nash is not sugarcoating anything about his 2011 WWE angle with CM Punk.

During an appearance on Inside The Ropes, Nash talked about powerbombing Punk at SummerSlam, being unable to fire back during their promo exchanges, and why he says their planned match was ultimately scrapped. Nash said his SummerSlam 2011 return came right after he finished filming Magic Mike. That night, he hit CM Punk with a powerbomb, which allowed Alberto Del Rio to cash in Money in the Bank and take the WWE Championship.

“Yeah, I was just — I just finished Magic Mike.”

When asked about the promos with Punk afterward, Nash said he was not given a fair chance to respond. According to Nash, Vince McMahon specifically told him he could not speak, which left him standing there while Punk took shots at him.

“Oh, he — no. I was told specifically not — I could not speak by Vince. And then so I don’t, if I can’t speak, I really don’t care what he’s going to say because I’m not allowed to have any kind of rebuttal. So, he goes out there and buries me.”

Nash also said the storyline logic bothered him. He had just cost Punk the WWE Title, but Punk stood far away on the stage instead of coming to the ring to confront him.

“But I never understood. So I came out of the crowd and I hit him with a power bomb and Del Rio came down and took his belt. So I cost him to be the world champion. I’m in the ring. He comes out and stands 200 feet away from me on the ramp, on the stage, and walks back and forth and cuts a promo where anybody else would be pissed off at me and would come down and charge me.”

Nash said he and Triple H have always been close, but while Punk was cutting the promo, the “Kevin Nash” part of him started thinking about how ugly things could get if he ignored instructions and walked up the ramp.

“And Paul and I are very, very close. And we’ve never had — I’ve never had an argument with Paul. But the Kevin Nash is, as he’s cutting this promo and kind of burying me, I’m thinking — and I’ve got a microphone. I’m just not saying anything. I’m thinking, what would he do if I said, ‘Shut up, bitch,’ and start walking?”

Nash then laid out exactly what he imagined saying to Punk if he had decided to go off script. When it was suggested that things would have gone very differently, Nash made his point very clear.

“Get out of the ring and start walking up that ramp and say, ‘You know, I don’t work for this company.’ I said, ‘If this was prison, I’d be selling your ass for cigarettes. Just keep walking.’ And go up there and just say, ‘I’m gonna smack you in the face when you say another word. I’m not under contract. He’s Mr. Pipe Bomb.’ What would — how would that play out?”

“He would have been dead.”

Nash was then asked about the old story that he was supposed to wrestle Punk, but could not be cleared because he was on blood thinners. Nash denied that and said the real reason was an unscripted Punk promo that angered Triple H.

“No. He cut a promo that was not scripted that basically told Paul that if he was looking for his balls, maybe they were in Stephanie’s purse.”

According to Nash, Triple H was furious after that line and decided he would be the one to face Punk instead.

“It wasn’t scripted. Paul got hot. We came back. Paul sat down in the locker room. He looked at me. He goes, ‘I’m so tired of that skinny fat son of a bitch. You’re not wrestling him. I’m beating him.’ And I said, ‘I’m not wrestling?’ He goes, ‘No.’ I said, ‘All right, I’m not wrestling.’”

Triple H went on to face CM Punk at Night of Champions 2011, where he beat Punk. Years later, Punk left WWE after a very public falling out with the company, but he eventually returned and now works in a WWE system led by Triple H. Nash was asked if he ever expected Punk and Triple H to end up on good terms years later. Nash said he did not see that coming, and then took another shot at Punk’s long time away from wrestling.

“No. No. But you know, I look at Phil’s career and, you know, he cuts great promos and talks about, you know, he doesn’t know how much longer he’s got. I’m thinking, well you dumb ass just sat at home for 10 years of it. You know, it’s just like maybe he was doing that Warrior thing, didn’t want to dye his hair.”

Nash’s version of the story adds a lot more heat to that already messy 2011 angle. He claims he was muted, Punk got to take his shots, and Triple H changed the match after one unscripted line crossed the wrong person backstage.

What do you think about Kevin Nash’s claim that CM Punk’s unscripted Triple H shot got their match pulled? Should Punk have faced Nash, or was Triple H stepping in the better move? Please share your thoughts and feedback in the comments section below.
