Kevin Knight hasn’t even been part of the Don Callis Family for two months, and AEW may already have much bigger plans for him.
The TNT Champion has quietly done everything the company has asked since joining Don Callis’ stable. He kept the TNT Title around his waist, became a regular presence in one of AEW’s top storylines, and now it sounds like his reward could be a shot at the company’s biggest prize.
According to Fightful Select, people inside AEW have already discussed Knight for a future AEW World Championship match. The report also notes that Redemption hasn’t been ruled out as a possible destination, and Knight has been earmarked for feuds with multiple wrestlers who are already established in the World Title picture.
That’s a pretty remarkable jump considering how recently Knight’s presentation changed. On the June 3 episode of AEW Dynamite, Don Callis interrupted Andrade El Idolo and introduced Knight as the newest member of the Don Callis Family just moments before Knight walked to the ring to defend the TNT Championship against “Speedball” Mike Bailey. He won that night, and he really hasn’t taken a step backward since.
Over the last several weeks, Knight has successfully defended the TNT Championship against Mike Bailey, Myron Reed, Dezmond Xavier and Lio Rush while also becoming one of the featured names in the Don Callis Family’s war with The Conglomeration. Even in defeat at Forbidden Door, Knight was positioned alongside names like Kazuchika Okada, Kyle Fletcher, Andrade El Idolo and MJF in one of the biggest matches on the card.
Nothing has been officially announced, and there’s no guarantee Knight’s first World Championship opportunity comes at Redemption. But if the report is any indication, AEW already sees the TNT Champion as someone capable of hanging around the top of the card rather than staying in the midcard title scene.
